Sustainability
Graveney Trust embraces the potential that it has to bring about positive change on the environment at local, national and global levels both through the teaching and learning that takes place in its schools and the organisational practices it pursues. With schools representing 25% of UK public sector building emissions, effective Trust level and school responses can make a significant contribution to reaching net zero.
The Trust aspires to a vision where everyone who is part of our community of schools, including students, staff, parents and contractors, understand their personal responsibility to protect the environment and the strategic framework within which this responsibility can and must be exercised. In addition, Trust students will be supported to develop the commitment, knowledge and vision to act as pioneers for change in all practices that impact negatively on the environment.
To this end, all Trust schools are required to develop their own Sustainability Plans, with clear targets and objectives. They may identify their own priorities within this framework and must report to their governing bodies and to the Trust at least annually on the actions they’ve taken, the impact of their actions supported by evidence and their arrangements for ensuring that their initiatives become fully embedded into school and individual practices. School plans must identify how pupils/students will be involved in decision making, shaping action plans, measuring results and acting as ‘environment champions’ within their school community.
